Talented, troubled chanteuse Shelby Lynne released a new record today, "Just a Little Bit of Lovin'." It's an album of Dusty Springfield cover tunes. I love it when lesbian worlds collide! (Springfield, of course, was a lesbian; Lynne has long played coy about her sexuality.) Whatever her deal is, she's an immensely gifted singer who also happens to be sexy as all get-out (as we Southerners say). There's just something about her that makes me want to take her home, listen to her bare her soul, then solve all her problems. And then make out with her. Ahem. Anyway, I've listened to a couple of the songs from "Lovin'," and I think it's going to be a lovely album, quiet and melancholic. I haven't loved all of her records, and I may not end up loving this one — who knows? — but I'm glad she's making the kind of music she wants to make.

Yes, Shelby is a lesbian... if you know her & are in the business you can verify it... as for being out... well, has Jodie Foster "come out"? There are people who are activists for social change and those who don't put their necks out. Shelby and Jodie are in good company...
I'm not making any judgments about the fact that she's never publicly stood up and said, "Yes I am." That's entirely up to her. As long as she keeps singing, I'm good.
i saw her last night here in toronto and let's just say i got the vibe. my friend mentioned to me that she might be a dyke, and i said "could be, since i saw her open for kd lang about 9 years ago, and *i* like her, so, that usually means they are gay..." - my 'dar has not let me down...

oh trust me that shelby is a lesbian. my dar is always right on this one. look at her duets with anne murray (fantastic CD, btw) and lucinda williams, and tell me that she's fakin it with touching them like that. be still my beating heart. and anne murray all but screamed that she's out with her new CD. check out youtube if you don't believe me. k.d., indigos, shelby, jann arden, and i'm, like stoked. btw, i've been carrying a torch for anne for years. and now enter shelby.
